Decoding the fondness of Nostalgia

Imagine walking down an old video game store on your way to the office. You see a group of kids playing games inside. The moment you see them, you tend to go back in time and process your old memories. Okay leave that, walking further, you see another group of kids playing gully cricket. Once again you go back in time and try to remember you had no worries (apart from doing school homework of course), and you have lived the best time of your lives way earlier. This feeling of going back in time (or I must say good times), is defined as Nostalgia.

When someone says about Nostalgia, it basically means going back down memory lane, reminiscing old times. Sometimes I too go back into my childhood and imagine the time when the lights were out, there were no mobile phones, and no investors to handle power cuts. We would light up candles, and people from the society used to gather around and talk. Big Men one group, Ladies one group, Kids one group like that we used to gather and discuss the things amongst our circle.

Nostalgia, that warm, fuzzy feeling we get when reminiscing about the past, holds a special place in our hearts. But have you ever wondered why we find solace in memories of days gone by? In this exploration into the captivating realm of psychology, we'll unravel the mysteries of nostalgia, understanding its profound impact on mental well-being. Join me on this extended journey as we delve into the intricacies of why we yearn for the past and how embracing nostalgia can contribute to our overall happiness.

What's the science behind this, experiencing Nostalgia?

To comprehend why nostalgia is such a powerful emotion, let's start with the science behind it. Neuroscientists suggest that when we recall positive memories, our brain releases feel-good chemicals like dopamine and oxytocin. This chemical concoction not only enhances our mood but also fosters a sense of connection and belonging. Understanding these neurological processes sheds light on why revisiting cherished memories can be such a therapeutic and comforting experience.

Imagine going back in your summer holidays yet again. Your relatives and cousins too visiting your house. Playing video games with your cousins, eating popsicles (I don't know what it is called in English), but I can show you in the image below:
